“Matt has captured something essential in this book – not just about coaching, but about human connection. I’m honored he included my reflection on what makes a great coach: the ability to meet people where they are physically, mentally and emotionally, and guide them with trust. Like shaping a raw product into something refined, this process demands patience, presence, and deep listening. Matt gets that. He doesn’t just write about it, he lives it. This book is a testament to that kind of leadership and empathy.”

~ Jackie Bradley, Jr. 11-year MLB Player,

2018 WS Champion & ALCS MVP & Gold Glove Winner

“Not only has Matt played and coached several different sports, but he has also rubbed shoulders with some of baseballs most talented players. He has a wide scope of coaching knowledge and is a tremendous leader and role model. This book is a perfect outline for anyone looking to take their leadership skills to the next level.”           ~ Kyle Hart, S.D. Padres Pitcher

“It has been an absolute pleasure coaching with Matt over the last seven years at Bowdoin College. Matt is the perfect blend of teacher, mentor and coach. His classroom is a baseball field, but he is teaching life lessons the entire time through the game. He teaches work ethic, resilience, perseverance, and teamwork. These are skills that translate to development on and off the baseball field. This book is a must read for players and coaches alike!”

~ Mike Connolly, Bowdoin Baseball Coach 1999-present

& Maine Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee 2023

“Not only does Matt know what it takes to be a great coach, but he takes it to the next level. He is the type of person who will take a phone call late at night from a player or a friend. He’s a bonus dad! He is a therapist and someone who will drop everything if you need a hand. But one thing that stands out to me the most about Matt is his positive attitude towards everything. He will look at any situation and put his own positive turn on things to boost your spirits and make sure you understand that there’s always something good to focus on. Matt doesn’t just coach and help ball players, he molds and shapes kids into adults. Without Matt and his family, I know I wouldn’t be where I am today.”              ~ Josh Reddick, 13-Year MLB Player,

WS Champion & 2012 Gold Glove Winner

“This book is more than a book about coaching—it’s a blueprint for building character, culture, and lasting impact. With over 25 years of experience, Matt has instilled timeless lessons into practical, heartfelt guidance that every coach can apply. Each chapter speaks of the values that truly matter, trust, integrity, humility, and purpose. It is not just about mechanics and strategy. What sets this book apart is Matt’s deep understanding that great coaching isn’t just about the game, it is about shaping lives.”       ~ Matthew Lugo, Anaheim Angels

“Matt is passionate not only about teaching game-specific skills but more importantly how the game itself translates into actual life skills that you can carry with you. This book will help both coaches and parents connect the dots between the on-field action and most importantly the off-field life skills. The lessons in this book can also be applied to businesses and any team environment.”           ~ Geoff Iacuessa, President of the Portland Sea Dogs (AA-Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox

“Matt has proven over a lengthy career to be a great coach of X’s and O’s, but more importantly he’s been a phenomenal teacher of life skills, empowering kids to realize success on and off the field.”            ~ Dave Eid, FOX Sports Reporter & Author
